Mike Preston,
better known as "Frenchy", was born in Quebec, Canada- a
French speaking province. I first met Frenchy in Junior High School
when he first moved to the states. Frenchy quickly became the talk
of the school with his easy French Canadian style and dress.
Frenchy moved
to Clearwater Beach only a few years out of high school. He went
to work in the local restaurant business proclaiming that he would
"someday open his own restaurant". Frenchy worked hard
in local restaurants making sure he learned every job - from dishwasher
through restaurant manager. After eight years in the business he
determined he was ready to open his own restaurant.
In 1981 Frenchy
opened the Original Cafe on Baymont Street. As long as I have known
him, Frenchy has always been a trader - always seeking the best merchandise
at the best price. In the restaurant business things were no different.
Frenchy made sure he served the freshest and best seafood possible.
Within a very short time the Cafe became widely successful with lines
of people stretching out the door all waiting for a seat.
To satisfy the
demand for his seafood, Frenchy started the Seafood Company, a constant
source of fresh seafood. Then he opened the Saltwater Cafe and later
the Rockaway Grill. Frenchy has since added another restaurant - Frenchy's
South Beach Cafe. Throughout the years Frenchy's restaurants have
become known for their great seafood, their reasonable prices, and
their friendly atmosphere. If you're ever in Clearwater make a trip
to the beach and dine on great seafood at one of Frenchy's four restaurants.
For souvenirs don't forget to visit Frenchy's "Off The Hook"
gift store. You won't forget it!
